| Tips on
Writing Letters to Congress and the Senate |
- Be Brief:
Limit your letter to 350 words.
- Be Clear and Concise: Don't dwell on diction
and style. Edit your letter before you send it in, deleting
unnecessary phrases or words
- Be Factual: The facts
you present will be your tool for convincing your Representative
to consider supporting the resolution. Facts, quotes, and
statistics strengthen the credibility of your letter and
educate the Representative. Personal opinions that lack supporting
evidence sound vague and are easily dismissed by staff and
the representative.
- Be Focused: Concentrate on the Resolution
to create one very forceful and convincing point. Branching
off on other topics will dilute your message.
- Be Selective: Do not disparage Palestinians.
Focus on our strengths
- Be Rational: To be credible, keep your
message factual. Revealing hostility or bitterness will undermine
your integrity. Do not use angry tones.
- Be Gracious. Thank the Representative
or Senator for their consideration of this Resolution.
Please let me know if you or your family/friends write a letter to
our Senators and Congressional Representatives. We need to keep
on them to enlist their support!
Yours, Emily
