The Forgotten Refugees Screening (with special guest speaker, Rachel Wahba)

Join us for a screening and discussion of The Forgotten Refugees, a 2005 documentary film that recounts the rich history of the ancient Jewish communities of the Middle East and North Africa, and their rapid demise in the face of persecution in the decades following the creation of the modern State of Israel in 1948. Remarks from JIMENA co-founder, Rachel Wahba, will proceed the screening.

Jewish Nightlife: A Concert Featuring UC Berkeley Students directed by Yair Harel

Jewish Nightlife is a multi-disciplinary exploration of the nexus between the ritual performance of Jewish texts and social changes across Jewish history, including Hebrew poetry, music, and synagogue liturgy in Europe, in North Africa, the Middle East, and present-day Israel. The program will include solo and ensemble performances by UC Berkeley students and participants in the Piyut North America project at The Magnes, led by Israeli visiting artist, Yair Harel.
