Hen Mazzig: My Fight For Mizrahi and LGBTQ Recognition & Rights

Hen Mazzig, The Algemeiner’s top 100 most positively influential Jewish people in the world, is an Israeli writer, international speaker and activist for social equality. Hen will share the story of his mother and her family that were forced out of Iraq and his dad that was forced out of Tunisia. Hen discuss the struggle of the 850,000 Jewish refugees from the Middle East and North Africa to fit into Israel and how they have been ignored by the international community.

Hen served in the IDF as a humanitarian officer working with Palestinians in the West Bank to promote international projects that helps civilians, which gives him a unique perspective of being son of refugees that worked to support other groups of refugees. Hen came out as an openly gay commander in the IDF in 2008 so he also shares the intersection of his Mizrahi Jewish and Queer identities in his talks.
