Mark Levy was born in Cairo, Egypt. As a boy he witnessed mass riots against Cairo’s Jewish population following the establishment of the state of Israel in 1948. Mark’s father had the foresight to leave the country and fled for France by boat. His family was totally dispossessed and forced to leave all everything behind making the the experience devastating. The journey was on a cargo ship and arrived Marseille, France where Mark and his family lived until moving to Israel a year later.

In Israel, Mark started life in a maabara refugee camp. He attended school and when he was old enough, he joined the Israeli army. He then came to the United States for university.
