Mizrahi Heritage Month for College Students & Young Adults

For the last ten years, JIMENA: Jews Indigenous to the Middle East and North Africa, a San Francisco based non-profit, has provided a range of immersive Sephardic and Mizrahi cultural experiences for college students and young adults throughout the United States. Our culturally rich content serves as an access point for young adults to engage in meaningful programs that reflect the growing Jewish diversity in our communities. We are proud to offer programs and activities that strengthen cultural continuity with Israel and the Middle East and engage young adults in the unique heritage and histories of Middle Eastern and North African Jews.

November 30th has been designated as Israel’s official day of recognition for former Jewish refugees from Arab countries and Iran and in consort with an international collation of Sephardic and Mizrahi organizations, JIEMNA has declared November as Mizrahi Heritage Month. We encourage you to integrate Mizrahi heritage into your young adult programs and JIMENA is pleased to support these efforts. In past years, we’ve worked with a range of young adult organizers to offer the following programs during the month of November. We would be delighted to work with you!

  • Mizrahi Shabbat Dinner Program
  • Moroccan Lantern Making
  • Henna Gathering
  • Presentation by a JIMENA affiliated speaker on a range of topics related to Mizrahi Jews
  • Sephardic Poetry Evening
  • Film Screenings
  • Middle Eastern Cooking Class
  • Women’s Circles
