The Final Exodus of the Libyan Jews in 1967
Professor Maurice Roumani, former director of the Elyachar Center for Sephardi Studies at Ben-Gurion University, traces how Libya placed Jewish property under state control beginning in 1961, barred Jews from voting, holding office, and buying property, and later seized their assets outright. After anti-Jewish riots broke out during the 1967 war, most of the remaining community was evacuated, and the compensation they were promised was never paid.
