Ashes and Echoes: Memory, Myth, and the Fractured Truths of El Hamma
Educator Adam Eilath sets the legend of Rabbi Haim Houri and the miracle of El Hamma, a town in southern Tunisia, beside archival letters about efforts to open a Jewish school in nearby Gabès. He argues that communities can hold legend and history together, and reflects on the 2023 arson of the El Hamma synagogue.
