The Persian Singer
Rebecca Sassouni, raised in Queens by Iranian Jewish immigrants, grew up feeling different. When Israeli singer Maureen Nehedar came to perform for Persian Jewish audiences, her music moved the community deeply and showed Sassouni that she could hold her Persian, Jewish, American, and feminist identities together.
